CAN I DO THE INITIAL CONSULTATION BY TELEPHONE?
No, because the doctor must meet the patient and his or her partner in person, assess tests and prior treatments. During the consultation, potential treatments will be assessed and a plan of action will be agreed.
HOW MUCH DOES A TREATMENT COST?
Detailed costs vary considerably depending on the type of treatment. The costs will be explained during the doctor-specialist examination, after having agreed on a personalised treatment plan. For further information you can however consult the Fees section.
WHAT ARE THE METHODS OF PAYMENT?
Patients may pay by bank transfer, in cash, in Euros (EUR) or Swiss Francs (CHF), by credit card (Visa, MasterCard and AmericanExpress – with the latter in CHF only).
DO I NEED TO BE MARRIED IF A DONOR SPERM IS USED?
Yes. According to Swiss law, in order to proceed with donor assisted reproduction techniques (insemination or in vitro fertilisation with donor sperm), you must be legally married.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO PERFORM PREIMPLANTATION ANALYSIS?
Yes. We perform preimplantation diagnosis and preimplantation screening on the polar globule. Please contact us for further information in this regard.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO CHOOSE THE SEX OF THE UNBORN CHILD?
No. Currently, Swiss law does not allow the selection of sperm to determine the sex of the unborn child.
CAN EGGS FROM ABROAD BE BROUGHT TO PROCREA?
Yes. ProCrea accepts gametes from the couple (eggs and sperm) even if they are brought in from abroad.
HOW MANY EMBRYOS CAN BE IMPORTED FROM ABROAD PER CYCLE?
Only three cryopreserved embryos may be imported to ProCrea per cycle, with the constraint of their imminent transfer and that the source eggs be from the receiving woman (art. 4 of the LAMP law expressly prohibits the donation of eggs and embryos).
IS IT POSSIBLE TO PERFORM EGG AND SPERM CRYOPRESERVATION?
Yes. According to Swiss law, it is possible to cryopreserve eggs and sperm at ProCrea for a maximum of five years.
HOW MANY EMBRYOS MAY BE TRANSFERRED PER CYCLE?
According to Swiss law, it is possible to transfer a maximum of three embryos per cycle but to reduce the risk of multiple pregnancies, ProCrea advises the transfer of two embryos per cycle.
WHERE ARE THE SPERM DONORS FROM?
ProCrea offers a wide range of donors selected directly by our andrologists or from foreign sperm banks that comply with the criteria of Swiss law. For further information, please see the Treatments section.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE SPERM FROM A DONOR IN ANOTHER SPERM BANK CHOSEN BY THE PATIENT?
No, because we have sperm bank with donor characteristics that are suitable for all of our patients.

Yes. All of our doctors are specialised in MAP.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE CENTRES IN ITALY AND THE PROCREA CENTRE IN LUGANO?
The centres that we work with in Italy give initial consultations for couples with infertility problems but only perform intrauterine insemination with the couple's own eggs and sperm. IS IT NECESSARY TO DO THE MONITORING AT PROCREA OR IS IT POSSIBLE FOR MY OWN GYNAECOLOGIST TO DO IT?
The various treatments may be monitored at our centre or it is possible to take blood samples and ultrasound scans with your gynaecologist, informing us of the results.
HOW MANY TIMES WILL I NEED TO GO TO THE PROCREA CENTRE?
It depends. Certainly for the initial consultation. Then, based on the treatment chosen, you may need to return to the centre once more or several times.
WHICH TESTS ARE IMPORTANT FOR AN INITIAL CONSULTATION?
For women, it is advisable to perform an endocrine profile to assess ovary function. For men, you will need to present a recent semen analysis (maximum validity of six months). The more complete the clinical picture is, the more targeted the treatment proposed will be.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE A LIST OF THE TESTS FOR THE INITIAL CONSULTATION?
In the event of an established diagnosis, it is possible to request the list of tests to perform before the consultation.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE A GYNAECOLOGICAL EXAMINATION, BLOOD TESTS AND SEMEN ANALYSIS THE DAY BEFORE THE FIRST CONSULTATION?
Yes. During the initial examination, on weekdays, it is possible to have blood samples taken, ultrasound scans and with prior agreement with the andrology laboratory, semen analysis.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO UNDERGO TESE OR MICROTESE AT PROCREA?
Yes, our urologists perform both operations.
DO YOU PERFORM IMSI?
No, at ProCrea ICSI is performed with high magnification.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE EGG DONATION AT PROCREA?
Yes. Despite the fact that the egg donation procedure is prohibited in Switzerland, the ProCrea Centre supports couples in the diagnostic and treatment process in close association with various foreign centres.
